Inflation-Busting Summer Wines

You could pay a fortune to see one of Mark Oldman’s famous, “five-star” (Food & Wine) “wildly popular” (Aspen magazine) live seminars at the nation’s top food festivals or you can take a Bevinars virtual wine class for a fraction of the cost and from the comfort of your own living room.

Inflation-Busting Summer Wines Class

If it is true, as saying goes, that “deep summer is when laziness finds respectability,” then it makes sense to pair that idleness with the most delicious, refreshing, and affordable wine possible. Mark is here to introduce you to the season’s best — perfect partners for a beach day, the grill, or just lollygagging on your lounge.

We will consider a range of key subjects, such as which wine styles are especially well-suited to warm-weather imbibing, how to best chill summertime wine, and which wine accessories are truly useful for your summer outings. And we will cover tasting techniques, decoding the label, and food pairings — including summer favorites like barbecue, Mediterranean fare, fruit-based salads, and more.

We start with one of the best values in all of wine, Vinho Verde — sprightly, low in alcohol, and light enough to glug. When then turn to two different styles of rosé and examine what distinguishes a standout rosé from an ordinary blusher. Finally, we discover the thirst-slaking powers of Grenache from Australia (and from other places), dependably fresh, fragrant, and brimming with red fruit.

In additional to the featured wines being presented, Mark will clue you into a slew of other summer satisfiers, including lesser-known gems such as Picpoul de Pinet and Grignolino.

Moreover, if you’ve ever been to one of Mark’s presentations, you know it is brimming with humor and his trademark “nuggets” of useful insider information that you won’t find anywhere else.

The cost of the class is $55 per household, and if you want to taste along with Mark, an optional Bevinars wine kit will be available to purchase at Wine.com.

You are encouraged — but not required — to taste along with Mark. If you wish to buy the accompanying Wine.com wine kit, please do so here soon as possible after you register below. You can also ask your local wine store for their best recommendations for these categories.

The featured wines are:

  • Vinho Verde
  • Cotes de Provence Rosé
  • Tavel Rosé
  • Grenache from Australia

The specific selection of wine, and its vintage, can vary depending on your location, but all bottles have been personally approved by Mark for their deliciousness and typicity.

If you do not purchase the wines online, you are free to ask a trusted local merchant for their recommendations for the wine types listed above.

Registrants will be emailed the Zoom link and reminders prior to the class. The class fee is non-refundable.

MISS THE CLASS, NO PROBLEM: Class participants may request a link to the recording of the class and access it for two months after the course ends, ideal for those who have to miss the class at the last minute or want to watch it again.
